Relaxation On The Mekong Delta
When it comes to planning a girls getaway outside Saigon it’s almost too easy to jump on a bus to the beach or hop on a plane to the North. Even though Can Tho has been on my Vietnam-bucket-list, I never buckled down and booked a trip. After mulling over all the places we wanted to go to for New Year’s Eve, we made a list, checked it twice and the Victoria Can Tho Resort looked like an absolute paradise!
It was official. I’d finally be able to cross the Mekong Delta’s largest city, Can Tho, off my never ending list. Floating markets, thousands of winding canals, an incredible riverside resort and endless relaxation from the comforts of a poolside lounger? That sounded like the perfect way to ring in the New Year to me!
The Victoria Can Tho is the perfect escape from the bustling streets of Ho Chi Minh City. Sitting on the banks of the Hau River, Victoria Can Tho offers 4-star comfort amongst its beautifully constructed colonial-style architecture and lush tropical gardens.
It was easy to spend our days relaxing by their incredible pools, sipping ice-cold cocktails and soaking up the Mekong sun! So, whether you’re looking for fun weekend getaway ideas, things to do in Can Tho or a fabulously located resort in the area, keep scrolling to find out how you can have a dreamy weekend getaway in the Mekong Delta’s Can Tho too!
Checking-In To The Victoria Can Tho
After a short three hour stint on the bus from Saigon we made it to the stunning Victoria Can Tho. Strolling through the lobby we were greeted with the timeless charm of its Indochine architecture. Beautifully crafted dark wood furniture, stunning tile work and touches of Vietnamese design is what makes the Victoria Can Tho authentic and connected to the local experiences.
With a tasty welcome drink in hand and a cold towel to cool us down, we relaxed in the lobby overlooking the Victoria Can Tho’s dreamy pools soon to be calling our name! Once our room was ready and we had officially checked-in, the wonderful staff who had already made us feel so welcome, showed us up to our room.
Elegant Rooms With Incredible Views
I absolutely adore the feeling of throwing open the door to a fresh resort room for the first time. Everything just perfectly placed, waiting for our arrival, the crisp clean sheets longing to be jumped into. That is a feeling that never gets old and the Victoria Can Tho was exactly what I had been hoping for!
My first impressions of this incredibly beautiful resort room had been completely overhauled when I stepped out onto our own private balcony. Overlooking the beautiful resort below, this was definitely a view I could wakeup to everyday! Victoria Can Tho’s air-conditioned rooms are designed with hints of Vietnamese culture from the decorative fabrics to the beautiful wood furnishing.
Included, is a seating area, flat-screen TV and minibar. An en suite bathroom comes with a bathtub, shower and toiletries. It’s all in the details for the Victoria Can Tho, as each night a local Vietnamese legend and bedtime treat is waiting for you to enjoy before you cozy up into those sheets! It was so much fun to read our little bedtime story and enjoy the cookies that came along with it every night! What a treat!
Relax, Rejuvenate, Lounge, Swim
Our first order of business. The pools. A girls getaway weekend just wouldn’t be complete without a little pool-side relaxation. And a margarita or two. Victoria Can Tho is the perfect place to sit back, relax and soak up all the sun the Mekong has to offer.
Their two large pools offer endless views and a beautiful backdrop to a day of unwinding. Victoria Can Tho also has their own riverside spa village which includes 7 indoor and semi-outdoor treatment rooms. They offer massages, wraps, scrubs, facials and salon treatments done by professional therapists. It’s next to impossible not to soak up all the relaxation Victoria Can Tho has to offer!
Spices Restaurant at Victoria Can Tho
Tucked inside the resort is the incredible Spices Restaurant. Food is one of the most important players in making your trip memorable and Spices Restaurant definitely did not disappoint. The restaurant sits next to the Hau River and has both indoor and outdoor seating areas. We ended up loving the dishes they served up we really didn’t see a need to venture out of the resort for every meal.
Breakfast, included with your stay, is a tasty buffet spread of fruits, cakes and various hot dishes. There’s an incredible omelette station, a create-your-own-pho bar, endless cereal options, coffee, tea, lattes, freshly squeezed juices and plenty of breads to butter up! Lunch and dinner menus also consist of tasty European and Vietnamese dishes, prepared by the hotel’s amazing French chef.
Everything is authentic, delicious and beautifully presented. The food is incredibly fabulous and the service is excellent. The fungi pasta, wild mushrooms in a creamy sauce, and sautéed duck with cashew nut were unforgettable and some of the best food I’ve had in a very long time!
What To Do In Can Tho City
→ Checkout Cái Răng Floating Market
Cái Răng is the biggest floating market in the entire Mekong Delta. It’ll be an early wake up call as the market is best from 6am to 7am, but undoubtedly a morning to remember! Victoria Can Tho offers their very own floating market tour bringing you by boat from the hotel up the river to get your hands on that infamous floating breakfast!
→ Grab A Drink By The River At Sao Hôm Restaurant
If you’re downtown Can Tho then you can’t pass up having a nice cold Tiger at Sao Hôm restaurant. Overlooking the river, this cute little spot is the perfect place to grab an afternoon drink before exploring a little bit more of city.
→ Peek Inside Sau Hoai’s Local Rice Noodle Factory
Take a step inside Can Tho’s rice noodle factory and see how they ingeniously craft their own local noodles! Give the entire process a try yourself as the owners and staff show you around and reveal how they make those delectable noodles we all love!
→ Enjoy The Hau River By Dinner Cruise
Can Tho is all about taking advantage of its beautiful waterways so why not enjoy a spectacular evening dinner spread as you float down the Hau River. Victoria Can Tho offers an amazing sunset dinner cruise featuring an exquisite set menu from 7:00pm to 9:00pm.
→ Grab All-Day Brunch At The Lighthouse Restaurant
Who doesn’t love brunch at any time of day? Especially when it’s at a cute little French fusion restaurant? The Lighthouse is a great spot serving up tasty food, good coffee and delicious cocktails right in the middle of the city!
→ Hire A Long-Tail Boat
There are so many ways to explore Can Tho, but the best way is always by boat. Hire a local long-tail boat for a couple of hours and have them take you through some of the 27,000 canals found throughout the region. These winding and weaving back water-ways are exactly what Can Tho is all about.
→ Eat All The Kẹo Dừa Your Heart Desires
If you don’t know what kẹo dừa is, then you’re in for a treat! Kẹo dừa, translated is coconut candy and its origin is right here in the Mekong Delta. You’ll find many coconut candy factories throughout the Mekong Delta crafting these tasty little treats. Made from coconut milk and coconut cream you just have to get your hands on a few before you leave!

What can I say? Victoria Can Tho was the perfect weekend getaway under the Mekong sun! There is nothing better than lounging in the timeless elegance that is this beautiful resort. The stunning architecture and touches of Vietnamese design make this a destination not to miss! We had such an incredible weekend at the Victoria Can Tho, our only regret is that we didn’t think to visit earlier!
At the end of the day we all work hard for our holidays under the sun and we deserve a little rest and relaxation every now and again, so why not throw a Can Tho getaway into the mix? Its hidden charms, attractive riverfront and proximity to the fascinating floating markets and waterways make Can Tho a fabulous destination for adventure seekers and relaxers alike!
With such a warm welcome into the Victoria Can Tho it was a sad and heartfelt goodbye. We truly did not want to leave our fabulous weekend away.
